"FUEL is an annual collaboration between Cohber and 12 of our area's most talented creatives. The result is a showcase calendar designed to celebrate and inspire creativity all year long." - Cohber Press
With the help of adjunct professor Chris Lyons, 49 juniors from the School of Design at RIT were asked to focus their creative abilities on a charitable organization that has personally impacted their lives. Of the 49 submitted designs, 12 were selected to make up the calendar.
Along with providing scholarships for each of the selected artists, the piece itself and the printing techniques used to produce them are also meant to help elevate the presentation of their work.
For my submission, the WILDaid non-profit organization was chosen due to my fascination with sharks. Over the course of a year, there are fins from up to 73 million sharks used in shark fin soup. The decimation of these apex predators will prove detrimental to the ecosystems of our oceans.
A folded sheet showing the iconic image of the dorsal fin of a shark swimming opens to reveal a kitchen knife. The design also features bubbles that double as spots of blood around the knife on the flip side of the poster. This poster shows both my visual styles, as well as highlights the topics that I consider important to me.
